It’s important for our kids to learn to live productive and good lives in the midst of all the technology options that are afforded to them! On top of that, let’s be honest, you and I will be hypocritical…

One minute we’re telling our kids to get off a game site and focus on homework.

Five minutes later, we’re calling them over to watch a funny YouTubevideo we saw while “working.”

Our current generation of parents has the responsibility of learning, on our own, how to handle this new world that our parents never could have imagined—and how to pass it on to our kids.

Technology is just a new reality to add to the realities of growing up. It’s a lot like teaching a teenager to drive. We tell them to do things we don’t do well ourselves—because we love them and want them to be safe drivers.

And just like learning to drive a car, learning to use technology responsibly takes time. They’ll make mistakes and we’ll need to use those mistakes as teaching opportunities. When it comes to technology, the state doesn’t issue learner’s permits or require written exams and field tests.

We’re on our own with how to hand off ownership of technology to our teenagers.

We’ve provided this Ultimate Cell Phone Guide to help equip you with the tools to allow your students earn the “keys” to their technology. Be a great example. The best thing parents can do for their students is to be the adults you want them to become.

Have you ever been in uncomfortable territory? A place that makes you feel a complete lack of ease?

For me, as an introvert, this is usually parties of all kinds. Maybe you can relate: You get an invite to a gathering with people you like and when you show up to this unfamiliar place there’s an immediate feeling of discomfort.

For me, as a dad of a pre-teen, one of the most uncomfortable territories for me is helping my daughter develop a positive body image. I just don’t know how to do it! As her dad, it’s a party I have an invitation to, but to say I don’t have a lay of the land is a MASSIVE understatement.

I understand it’s a hugely important role that I play in helping her with this, but I have no clue where to start.

Our hearts at Parkview are broken over the recent school shooting at Covenant School in Nashville, TN. We understand that when tragedies occur, it can be difficult to answer questions your kids may have. We found an article that may help you navigate through these incredibly difficult conversations. We are praying for you and for the families directly affected by this tragedy.

Book Recommendations for Kids Who Worry

Do you have an anxious child in your life? It seems like that is becoming more and more prevalent these days. And understandably so. As a parent, it can be so challenging to know how to navigate these moments and conversations with your kids. We highly recommend the books “Raising Worry Free Girls” by Sissy Goff and “Raising Emotionally Strong Boys” by David Thomas. These books are written to help us as parents develop a clearer look into what anxiety and worry look like in our children, but both books are also full of practical steps we can take to help our kids break the cycles of anxiety.
